About Me

Hello, and welcome to my little social justice bubble! My name is Rachel Belkov and I am currently a middle school reading teacher in Berwyn, Illinois - but I live in the great city of Chicago!

I am starting my 7th year of teaching. I began mainly teaching language arts, but a few years ago, I went back to school and became a reading specialist.  I am still working in the classroom, but now I teach mostly reading classes.  This year will be my first year without a language arts class, but I will be teaching one section of Social Studies!

Reading and social justice are both passions of mine.  So, I am working to tie them together to create a year of learning and growth for my students. In my last two 8th grade loops, I have worked to develop a social justice curriculum that I am excited about. But like most teachers, I am always looking to make improvements.  I am hoping to use this blog as a springboard to discuss teaching, reading, social justice and much more.  I look forward to the ideas and feedback I receive from other teachers, administrators, reading specialists, parents and activists.

I am also a huge traveler! Well, I love to travel, and I do it whenever I can.
